Unidentified Mother & Child, ca. 1850, Southworth & Hawes (American, Active ca. 1845-1861)

I chose this photo because it translates a tender moment. Subjects tend to look really stiff and emotionless in daguerreotypes, but this one managed to capture a softer, sweet interaction even with the long exposure time.
