Machupicchu
Photographer: Rogers, Elizabeth Barlow, "Machupicchu," Cuzco, Peru, 1999. © Elizabeth Barlow Rogers, Foundation for Landscape Studies.
I chose this photograph both for it's aesthetic, as well as, it's documentary qualities. Aside from being a beautiful photograph, the documentary evidence it provides of the late Incan ruins is priceless. It invokes so many feeling of awe, mystery, and intrigue. The viewer is left to ponder the site's original purpose along with questions concerning how it was constructed. Neatly tucked between the high mountains in Peru, Machupicchu is truly a breathtaking example of early construction fueled by religious dedication.
