Milton Rogovin - East Side Series Buffalo, NY

Milton Rogovin, East Side Series Buffalo, NY 1961-1963 found on ARTstor
I picked this photo completely based on content. It is an interesting mixture of contradictions. The worn out front door with the fading number sign, and the genuine smile from the woman in the door. However, her eyes maybe are saying something else. The bouquet in the front is also odd. It is most definitely a bundle of romain lettuce, but being held as if it were flowers. The image is positioned or cropped so we can not see who is holding the bouquet. Is she accepting it and that is why she is smiling? Is good food more important and smile-worthy than a traditional bouquet of flowers?
